Albion Online Patch 3 brings another round of changes to Ancient Lands, focusing on portal availability and reducing the time players spend waiting for the next run. In its September 29, 2026 announcement, Sandbox Interactive said that Small Portals would become much more frequent, allowing players to chain Ancient Lands runs more easily.
Small Portals will appear much more frequently
The main change in Patch 3 is that Small Portals will appear almost constantly on the world map. The goal is to reduce downtime and make Ancient Lands content easier to chain for solo players and small groups.
Medium and Large Portals
Medium and Large Portals remain more opportunity-driven content. The announcement states that these portal sizes keep their existing reward structure.
Loot and Fame changes
The increased availability of Small Portals comes alongside a rebalance of Ancient Lands rewards and Fame. Community discussion focused heavily on the impact of lower rewards when the activity becomes much more frequent. Sandbox Interactive subsequently said it was considering limiting the increased portal frequency to Orange Zone Small Portals, while keeping lethal Small Portals at their existing frequency and rewards.
What changes for players?
- Small Portals: Much easier to access and chain.
- Medium/Large Portals: Continue to function as opportunity-driven content.
- Orange Zone: More frequent access is being targeted.
- Lethal Zones: The final portal-frequency implementation should be checked against the live version following the feedback discussion.
Why does Patch 3 matter?
One of the early friction points in Ancient Lands was waiting for a portal to become available. Patch 3 aims to make the activity more consistent, particularly for players using Small Portals. The result is a stronger focus on repeatable Ancient Lands runs rather than long gaps between attempts.
Note: Sandbox Interactive discussed limiting the increased Small Portal frequency to Orange Zones after player feedback. The final lethal-zone implementation should therefore be verified on the live version.
